For those of us who believe that at this time in humanity’s history, energy wise transportation would make good common sense, maybe we can still make a difference to the latest decision by the government to remain with diesel trains, as opposed to transitioning to electric. The Big Happy Sun-day, launching the 1066 Local Energy Campaign for Local Energy, was a resounding success, with many visitors from home and wider afield exploring and participating in the various stalls demonstrating how clean, renewable energy makes simple common sense. Don’t miss the climate change bus: make pensions fossil free! This is the message from Divest East Sussex and Fossil Free Hastings. On Saturday 23 September campaigners from across East Sussex will be boarding one of the Big Lemon’s sustainable buses for a one-day tour of the county, taking the message about fossil fuel divestment – and the Divest East Sussex petition – to Hastings, Bexhill, Hailsham, Eastbourne, Seaford, Crowborough, Uckfield and Brighton. Sustainability advisor backs 1066 Local Energy

Imagination, creativity and innovation. Intrinsic elements for our shared future. And elements encapsulated deep in the heart of 1066 Local Energy’s vision for Hastings and St Leonards on Sea for clean electricity generation. Alan Simpson, advisor on sustainability to the Shadow Cabinet and committed renewable clean energy advocate was the main speaker at a pre-launch gathering held at The Beacon, adding his enthusiastic support to the evolution of locally owned, lower priced energy production where the money generated would stay within the local community. HOT’s Zelly Restorick reports.

Sunshine to power Hastings to 2066

Amazing energy innovation for Hastings and St Leonards. The 1066 Local Energy campaign is about to be launched. A campaign by local organisations to turn homes, businesses and churches into mini green power stations to keep energy prices affordable begins at the Stade on 10 September 10 2017 with The Big Happy Sun Day. The campaign will also launch a new community energy tariff that offers better deals to those on prepay meters and a green energy tariff to support local groups. 

Bags of Help for Energise Sussex Coast

Energise Sussex Coast is bidding to bag a massive cash boost for its ‘Science Lab on the Beach’ project from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. This really is an excellent community organisation, who are doing all they can to reduce local fuel poverty and develop local community energy, so that the benefits stay within Hastings and St Leonards. HOT’s Zelly Restorick writes.
