Turov heads field for chess tournament

Preparations are well under way for the 2017/18 Hastings International Chess Congress which will open on 28 December at Horntye Park. To date nine grandmasters and one woman grandmaster have signed up. Nick Terdre reports.

Fish cruises home in wind-blown half marathon

Under overcast skies with strong winds gusting, Blackburn’s Ben Fish won the men’s race and Sarah Gruber the women’s in the 2017 Hastings Half Marathon. Nearly 3,500 entered the popular event, which as usual is expected to have raised thousands of pounds for charity. Nick Terdre reports.

Hastings Half Marathon ready for the off

The 33rd Hastings Half Marathon will be run this Sunday, 19 March. It’s shaping up well, with local runners looking well-set to challenge for the top places, race director Eric Hardwick of Hastings Lions tells Nick Terdre. Photos from the 2016 race by Russell Jacobs.

Indian victory at Hastings chess congress

Hastings International Chess Congress (HICC) 2016/17 proved a happy hunting ground for a strong contingent from India, who took first prize, dominated the top boards in the latter stages and produced the prodigy of the tournament. Nick Terdre reports.

Victory for black team in chess-archery contest

Team Rasa with the black pieces triumphed in the second Hastings Chess-Archery Contest held at Horntye Park in late October. The event, which brings together two sporting activities with a long tradition in Hastings, was deemed a success by all and will hopefully become an annual fixture. Nick Terdre reports. 1066 Cycling Festival

The 1066 Cycling Festival is a brand new free two day festival celebrating everything cycling. The festival will run over the weekend 11 and 12 June in two venues, Hastings and Bexhill.
