What about a Business “Freegle” to Boost Hastings?

Hastings is strong on self-help, mix and match and patch and repair to solve its day to day problems of making do. Self-help organisations,  such as Freegle, Hastings Creatives and Hastings Network help small businesses, micro-businesses and the voluntary sector that make up Hastings’ creative community to network and exchange resources and expertise. What if a new initiative could bring extra resources and expertise into this sector, care of “our bank”, the nationalised Lloyds Banking Group?,  writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Fran McKeown

The news of Fran McKeown’s sudden death on Christmas Day came as a huge shock, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick.  Paddling in the sea on Christmas morning, she was caught off guard by a wave, sweeping her further out to sea, where she collided with a groyne. Attempts were made to resuscitate her, but she died later that evening from her injuries.

Before I heard of the amazing work of Surviving Christmas, Hastings, writes Beth Davies, I thought that the Season of Goodwill had died alongside Ebenezer Scrooge. However, since 1985 this local charity has been helping the vulnerable people of Hastings, St Leonards and Rother, providing food and company over the Christmas period, delivering hampers and despatching vouchers to local people in need.
