Women composers to the fore in the Challenge of Change

On Wednesday 1 May at 7.30pm the Kino-Teatr in St Leonards hosts a chamber music concert dedicated to female composers as part of Hastings Philharmonic’s Challenge of Change festival. This features some great musicians, including pianist Roman Kosyakov, winner of the 2018 HIPCC, and Angela Jung, the lead violin of Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra. Will Robertson, cello, and counter-tenor Alex Pullinger make up a very impressive team, writes Chris Cormack.

Poets and singers in joint celebration of Atatürk

As part of a series of themed events around “The Challenge of Change”, and an 80th anniversary celebration  of Jemal Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of modern Turkey, Hastings Philharmonic Chamber Choir will join poets from the Hastings Stanza group at The Beacon in St Mary’s Terrace on Tuesday 30 April at 7.30 pm for an evening of entertainment in song and verse, writes Chris Cormack.

Robinson Crusoe  deconstructed

It all started with a sculpture. And a chat – when Gail Borrow, the founder and the power behind the St Leonards experimental theatrical events, Explore the Arch, and sculptor Bernard McGuigan talked about  working together creatively. The seeds having been planted, they just needed a project. As the 300th anniversary of Daniel Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe was imminent, that is the venture they developed. Intrigued, HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths talked to Bernard McGuigan.
