International Film Festival shows St Leonards as it has never been seen before

Last month, St Leonards lit up the silver screen in Cannes, at the Straight 8 film festival. Not only was this the film’s premiere, it was the first time that the directors, Mauricio Vincenzi and Darren Morris, had seen their work. On Saturday 14 July, we can all see their film at the inaugural St Leonards International Film Festival. HOT’s Erica Smith tracked the directors down to find out more…

The Hastings Way to Film

Is there a Hastings school of film? A style of film-making distinct to the area and its people? After all Hastings “is one of the most creative parts of the UK” as artist Gary Dorking remarked recently here in Hastings Online Times. A recent programme of films under the title ‘Arrow in the eye’ at the Electric Palace on May 13 sought to answer this question, and Richard Hull watched and listened with keen attention.

Good Friday brings a remarkable event at The Royal Victoria Hotel – a screening of The British Guide to Showing Off which has been organised as a fundraiser for St Leonards Film Society and Sara Lee Trust. The film is a documentary about Andrew Logan’s phenomenal ‘Alternative Miss World’ events. Guests are encouraged to dress up (in)appropriately and join in the fun with a red carpet walk. HOT’s Erica Smith caught up with organiser Dawn Dublin and asked her some questions:
