Yumino Seki is Under the Moon at the museum

So often you hear in Hastings, the phrase “Aren’t we lucky”– about the weather, the sea, the culture and the diverse creativity of art and music. Surprisingly, amongst this diversity is Butoh dance, created, choreographed and performed by Yumino Seki. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths talked to her about her latest production at Hastings Museum, Gekka, Under the Moon

Trees in art and nature

In and around Hastings we are fortunate to have so many trees and woods. Trees mark the changing seasons, the cycle of life. Always changing.  But how often do we think – or even know – about trees? HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths talks to one person who does, Jim Roseveare, tree surgeon, artist and tutor of Looking At Trees with the Workers’ Educational Association, WEA.

An exotic dancer

Strange currents in odd places

End of August approaches and with it Hastings and St Leonards annual arts festival, Coastal Currents. Amazingly, now in its sixteenth year, it has been growing exponentially in size and character, attracting international groups and live events as well as supporting local artists. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths talked to one of the curators, Tina Morris.

A Butoh magical night

Last year Yumino Seki performed her exhilarating Butoh show Hyakki Yakou, A Night Walk of a Hundred Demons, to sell-out houses out at the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery; loads of people were turned away but HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was lucky enough to see it.
