Verdi’s Macbeth marks Shakespeare’s 400th

This weekend sees the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death celebrated by two performances of Verdi’s Macbeth at the White Rock Theatre by Opera South East on Friday and Saturday. A treat is in store, says the company’s Greg Solomon.

Christmas and New Year cheer with Opera South East

On Sunday 6 December Opera South East presents an evening of Christmas delights in the old town with audience participation and a welcome performance by the Claremont Preparatory School Chamber Choir. The pupils of Claremont School were invited to join in a carol composing competition and some of their carols will be performed by the chorus of Opera South East.

Hastings welcomes its own new orchestra

For those lovers of the International Composers Festival, who regret not having their usual opportunity of hearing recently composed classical tonal music here in Hastings, there is – this year at least – an exciting new development for romantic music, namely the first official concert of the Hastings Sinfonia. And the concert will include many much loved soloists from earlier Composers’ Festivals for us to enjoy, once again under the expert lead of conductor Derek Carden. HOT’s Chris Cormack writes.
