Transport poverty in Hastings can be changed

Road planning in our town denies access to many residents. Those who do not have a car and rely on pedestrian routes, buses or bike routes are definitely getting a poor deal in Hastings. Transport poverty exists in our community and goes unrecognised. Green Party candidate for Tressell, Catherine Taylor writes.

Transition Town Hastings invite

Transition Town Hastings (TTH) are very excited to announce their AGM on Sat 21 October at the White Rock Hotel from 10am – 12pm – and to invite you to attend. Their aim is to make the meeting both succinct and interesting.

Transition Town Hastings currently have a membership of 275 people and a host of ideas and initiatives including the community garden at Warrior Square Station, recycling, takeaway food packaging, food waste, sewage, water, keeping the town clean, strengthening the local economy, energy and dependence on fossil fuels. Ore Valley Greenway route attracted nearly 70.

Greenway group calls open evening

Hastings Greenway Group is holding an open evening on Thursday 2 February with the aim of moving their campaign for a safe walking and cycling network into a higher gear. On the agenda will be possible funding for the Ore Valley stretch of greenway and the formation of a sustainable transport forum for the town. Nick Terdre reports. Photos by Tony Polain.
