Bid for Equality: aGender plans art auction fundraiser in July

Mixing it up with aGender

One of HOT’s writers, Xaverine Bates, is also involved in a cutting edge project working with young people and addressing issues of stereotyping, bullying, sex and sexuality. The aGender project has developed rapidly over the last year or so, from a twinkle in Xaverine’s eye, to a regional programme which tackles sensitive issues using visual and performing arts and creative media. HOT’s Erica Smith asked Xaverine to tell us more!

Difference, deviation & dissent

HOT columnist, Sean O’ Shea, discusses some examples of the devaluing stereotypes which are applied to various groups in society, who are perceived as different, troublesome, or as deviating from perceived norms.  Drawing on examples from Nazi Germany as well as contemporary Britain, he emphasises the need for vigilance in the light of the stigmatisation and scapegoating of sections of the community.
