Showcasing SoCo artists

Last year SoCo Artists presented Showcase 1, a curated show of members selected by a committee of SoCo artists. The Showcase process allows artists to develop or consolidate a body of work supported by workshops, discussions and feedback. It proved so successful that it is back again as Showcase 2.  HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to take a look.

SoCo strong and fragile at HAF

It is always interesting to go to a curated show as opposed to an all members exhibition. It gives space and development to the artists and more clarity to the viewer. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths dropped in to SoCo (South Coast Artists) first curated Showcase of eleven artists selected from membership submissions.

The power of six

The Fleet Gallery on Norman Road is always a surprise. You never know who or what you will see there: Maggi Hambling, Terry Frost, Mary Fedden, Ben Nicholson or – either their work or in person – locals like Roland Jarvis, Laetitia Yhap and Amanda Nicol. Patrick Robbins is a great supporter of local artists and so HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to see his latest show of ‘6’ (mainly) resident painters.

The art sale for Gaza organized by Hastings Palestine Solidarity Campaign in early August proved an enormous success. Now a second round is planned, also at the White Rock Hotel, in early September, as Hastings PSC’s Rachel Lever reports.
