Rain fails to quench bonfire spirits

As darkness fell on Saturday evening and the annual torchlight procession set off, it seemed that the heavy rain which had been falling since late afternoon would drown out the proceedings, or at least quench people’s spirits. However, bonfire society folk are made of sterner stuff, and although many got soaked and some torches were extinguished, in the end the rain ceased halfway through the procession, allowing all and sundry to enjoy the bonfire and fireworks display. HOT photographer Russell Jacobs kept his camera dry and documented the event.

Beatles Day – 17 years at number one!

Last Sunday was not just another day – it was Beatles Day at the White Rock Theatre, where the crowds came streaming, the musicians, (whether in the first flush of youth or the creaking stages of old age), enjoyed their 15 minutes on stage and the takings for Macmillan Cancer Support kept mounting. Even getting soaked on the way home wasn’t enough to dampen Nick Terdre’s enthusiasm.

Kenyans take first places but everyone’s a winner in the Hastings Half Marathon

The 32nd Hastings Half Marathon took place on Sunday, with Kenyan runners taking first place among both men and women. Despite the overcast skies and chill air, it proved a great success, not least in numbers, attracting just under 3,500 participants. Nick Terdre reports.
