Second-placed Maxim Kinasov talks of his life in music

Maxim Kinasov, aged 25, from Russia, is to be congratulated for winning second prize in the Hastings International Piano Cconcerto Competition, while the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra also awarded him the well-deserved orchestra’s prize for his rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat Minor, Op 23, in the final. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver had the good fortune to be his host, and over suppers and a glass or two of wine, talked with him about his life in music.

Piano crown goes to Koido as HIPCC broadens its horizons

Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition came to a glorious climax on Saturday at the White Rock Hotel, with Japanese contestant Fumiya Koido declared the winner. Plans for enhancing the competition, including a piano festival next year, were also announced. Nick Terdre reports, photos by John Cole.

Piano competition goes biennial

The prestigious Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, which has been growing in stature every year for the last 14 years, is to become a biennial event after next year’s competition. Julian Norridge reports.

Orchestral backing heats up piano finals

Three of the six finalists in the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition had their last chance to impress the jury last night. Tonight the competition  reaches its climax with the remaining three finalists going through their paces and the jury eventually anointing the winner. Forty two vie for piano competition glory

This year’s Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, which promises to be the biggest and best ever, will start at the White Rock Theatre on Thursday February 23 and run until the grand two-evening final on 3 and 4 March.
