Heart of Hastings seeks housing partner

There is good news and not-so-good news for the Heart of Hastings management team to report to shareholders and supporters about the Ore Valley housing scheme at its annual general meeting next Saturday: on the one hand it can apply for government funding made available for community-led housing projects, and on the other, at the council’s request it has to find a partner to assist in implementing the project. Rock House rocks!

An experimental, collaborative, creative, affordable mixed-use building: Rock House in the centre of Hastings offers both residential and working space, aiming to “disrupt the usual gentrification story by making it possible for people who ‘scrape a living’ – but contribute so much to the area – to continue living and working here”. Karen Simnett writes.

Citizen journalism course

Citizens arise and write!

Local resident and independent media advocate, June Knight, wrote to HOT asking if we could publicise Real Media’s crash course in Citizen Journalism. Each of us writing for HOT is a ‘citizen journalist’, giving of our time for free and 100% committed to the idea of independent media, meaning that we are nobody’s puppet-scribes. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asks June why she feels this is important in today’s world.
