"You looking at me, pal?!" The herring gull glare.

Getting to grips with gulls

Seagulls – don’t you just love ’em? Or maybe you just hate ’em? Or maybe, like HOT’s Nick Terdre, you have a love/hate relationship with them. Pulled both ways, he thought it was time to find out what seagulls are really like.

Unexpected arrival: a red-footed booby

HOT’s Chandra Masoliver takes up the story of the red-footed booby that landed on St Leonard’s beach on 4 September. It was sent to the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) and then on to Mallydams Wood Wildlife Centre in Fairlight, where they are hoping it will survive. Chandra had the good fortune of seeing this very un-English bird because she works as a volunteer at Mallydams.

Catch The Coal Porters at The Stade

The Coal Porters, one of the UK’s finest alt-bluegrass acts, hit the road this autumn for some memorable shows before they rest up for 2016. This is their last British tour behind their well-received album, ‘Find The One’, the sixth album from ex-Long Ryder Sid Griffin’s stellar new act. The album shows The Coal Porters expanding their palette as they take acoustic folk and bluegrass into previously uncharted waters.
