Launch of Silver Hill Press

There is definitely an appetite, pride and support for enterprising, affordable, well produced local publishing. Hastings Fish Cook Book is a specialist private publishing company, which published its first cook book in 2009 and produced three different editions and several reprints. The first edition sold out of a print run of 10,00o. Now there is another independent enterprise, Silverhill Press. Photographer Ian Land had the great idea of publishing a series of art monographs starting with photography and then extending out to poetry, possibly illustration and collage. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths asked Ian some questions about the project.

Creative Industries Federation manifesto

In the light of the call for a general election, Richard de Pesando, via Hastings Creatives Media Network, passed on this link to the Creative Industries Federation cross-party manifesto, highlighting the role and needs of the creative industries in the UK, suggesting that it’s worth a read. Knowing that Hastings and St Leonards is populated by many a talented creative, HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked him if she could share his words and the link with you. It’s not a long or complicated read – see what you think.

Dedicated Creative Quarter at Claremont?

A few weeks ago I raised the possibility via the Yahoo group Hastings Creatives, of establishing an Open Studios weekend in Claremont, inspired by a similar event in Folkestone. Subsequently, I have explored the potential to establish Claremont as a Creative Quarter in a more formal way. Why? Is this even possible? Richard de Pesando reports.

Reasons to stay in Europe

On both sides here has been much anger, lies and, at times, debate that would embarrass a four-year-old. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths asked a few local Hastings and St Leonards-ites about their thoughts and concerns on Europe and why they are in favour of remaining.
