Chair should have declared conflict of interest, says critic

The application for installing five kiosks on the pier was passed by HBC’s planning committee at its March meeting, but in the view of local resident Chris Hurrell the committee chair, Cllr Alan Roberts, should have declared a conflict of interest and left the room. In Mr Hurrell’s view, the chair was also remiss in allowing the pier owner to ramble on about irrelevant matters when answering questions from committee members. Nick Terdre reports.

Residents’ voice still ignored as bathing pool site plans advance

Hastings Borough Council is pushing ahead with its plans for a large housing development on the former bathing pool site in West St Leonards, unmoved by the continuing efforts of local residents to have a say in what happens in their neck of the woods. Residents are asked to object to the council’s planned disposal of the site and attend the Cabinet meeting next Monday when their petition will be presented. Nick Terdre reports.

Residents slam “secret plans” for  bathing pool site

Local residents have slammed the council for preparing “secret” plans to build a large housing estate on the old bathing pool site in West Marina. As well as mounting a petition opposing the plans, they have called a public meeting for Wednesday 9

County Hall in Lewes.

Tories take three Hastings seats off Labour

Hastings Conservatives did well in yesterday’s county council elections, taking three Hastings seats off Labour – both parties now hold four each in the town. Neither the LibDems nor the Greens threatened to win a seat. Nick Terdre reports.
