Seaview choir caps successful concert

Seaview’s hugely enjoyable carol concert in St John the Evangelist Church last Saturday was supported by Sound Waves Community Choir and a cappella group, Now and Then and ended with a performance by Seaview’s own choir. The event proved a successful fundraiser, bringing in donations of £774 from a record crowd, estimated at 200 plus. The tally for the Big Sleep in September is still under way, but has so far reached more than £25,000. As public funding dwindles, Seaview is increasingly reliant on its own resources to raise the vital funds for its invaluable work with homeless, vulnerable and distressed people. Nick Terdre writes. Chris Mammone

The hard life at sea

A local photographer was so inspired by the week he spent on a fishing trawler in the North Sea during his final year at uni that he decided to move back to Hastings in order to pursue his continuing passion to document the fishing industry. Hastings photographer Chris Mammone’s exhibition is one of many PhotoHastings shows currently on display in Hastings and St Leonards, and HOT reporter and photographer John Cole went along to the preview night to speak to Chris about his work.

Looking beyond the labels

No Labels is a documentary photographic exhibition currently showing at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery. The intention of local photographer, John Stiles, is to show viewers the characters and personalities of some of the people who attend the Seaview Project, asking us to look beyond the labels and see the individuals. HOT’s Zelly Restorick went along to the exhibition and spoke to Stiles about his work.
