The 70-year Israeli destruction of Palestine

This year marks 70 years since the violent displacement of the Palestinian people – known as the Nakba (Arabic for “catastrophe”). Laurie Holden of the Hastings Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) reports on the ongoing Nakba and local events to commemorate this.

Local woman calls for ‘Justice for Palestinians’

At a recent meeting in Hastings, St Leonards resident, Leah Levane, provided an eyewitness account of life in the occupied Palestinian territories. Those attending heard of her experience of being part of the largest ever all Jewish delegation to visit the occupied territories. Leah was one of 130 Jewish people, mainly from the US, who visited Hebron in May of last year. One of their aims was to restore a Palestinian family to the home they were evicted from 20 years ago. A peaceful mission and vision

With the subject of Palestine and Israel very much in the news since US President Trump’s announcement that America will recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, there will be a chance for people in Hastings to hear a first-hand account of a recent visit to Palestine made by a St Leonards woman, Leah Levane. Palestine – not ours to give

In November 1917, 97 years ago, the British government issued the Balfour Declaration, in which it committed itself to “use its best endeavours” to achieve the “establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” Hastings Palestine Solidarity Campaign are holding a meeting this week to discuss the effects of British involvement in Palestine, as they explain.
