Day of action to build public support for safe walking and cycling routes this Saturday

Safe and convenient solutions for pedestrians and cyclists to get around town will be in focus in a day of action on Saturday 22 April, not least the Walking and Cycling Strategy adopted by Hastings Borough Council three years ago but still awaiting implementation. Nick Terdre reports.

Walking and cycling – tell them!

East Sussex County Council would like to hear your views about Hastings’ draft Walking and Cycling strategy, according to which a network of walking and cycle routes across the town is planned to encourage  short local journeys on foot and by bike, especially journeys to work, school and shopping facilities, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

25 years of On Yer Bike

Last Sunday’s glorious weather was perfect for the 25th anniversary of the On Yer Bike Castle Cycle Challenge, organised by the Rotary Club of St. Leonards-on-Sea.  Funds were raised for St. Michael’s Hospice, Hastings Lifeboat and other local charities through sponsorship and entrance fees. Report by Pippa Cork and Duncan Hacon of Hastings Urban Bikes.

Keeping alive the tradition of twin towns, 14 members of Hastings Urban Bikes (HUB) journeyed to The Netherlands for a long weekend between September 14 to 18 where they were welcomed and accommodated by members of the Dordrecht Touring Club de Mol. Richard Hull went along for the ride (and the Dutch beer).

The newest recruit to HOT’s all-volunteer staff, Dutch correspondent Theo Rutten, reports on the weekend

Ian Sier of Hastings Urban Bikes reports, in the week that also sees the official opening of the Bulverhythe Link and the related attempt at 1,000 Kissing Bikes – see here for our earlier story.
