Great news for 1066 Local Energy campaign

After long negotiations and discussions, the directors of Ore Campus of East Sussex College Hastings have said ‘Yes’ to the installation of solar panels on their roof. Fantastic news, marking the first big success of the 1066 Local Energy Campaign. HOT’s Zelly Restorick spoke to Richard Watson of Energise Sussex Coast, one of the partner organisations involved in the project.

The next Heart of Hastings guided Nature Walk is this Saturday 8 September from 10am, featuring tree surgeon and artist, Jim Roseveare, story-teller and herbalist, Ben Edwards and Claire Land, Forest School Leader. Anton Hack writes.

Guided nature walks

Anton Hack from Heart of Hastings has organised more woodland walks in Ore Valley, involving specialists on the field of trees, herbs, foraging and birds. As you’ll see from David Young’s photos from the last walk, the area is beautiful, yet another of the hidden natural areas in this area.

Heart of Hastings seeks housing partner

There is good news and not-so-good news for the Heart of Hastings management team to report to shareholders and supporters about the Ore Valley housing scheme at its annual general meeting next Saturday: on the one hand it can apply for government funding made available for community-led housing projects, and on the other, at the council’s request it has to find a partner to assist in implementing the project. Woodland walking with Heart of Hastings

The Heart of Hastings warmly invites you to a guided woodland walk around the old power station site in Ore on Saturday 16 June from 10am. People will be on hand to inform you about the ecology and history of the area, as well as Heart of Hastings’ plans for the site. Environment and Outreach co-ordinator for Heart of Hastings Community Land Trust – and also the guide for the walk, Anton Hack writes.

Heart of Hastings wants to ‘Woo’ you!
