Pier shares sale takes off

The sale of community shares in Hastings Pier is now under way as Hastings Pier Charity seeks to raise £500,000 to complete funding to secure the pier’s future. To date almost £100,000 has been committed, Nick Terdre reports.

The pier is ours!

Hastings Pier is back in the hands of the community, and following the ceremonial re-opening of the gates yesterday, restoration is about to begin. In spring 2015 the town’s iconic structure is due to open for business again. Nick Terdre reports.

Better days are getting nearer for Hastings pier.

Grant secured for pier restaurant

Hastings Pier has taken another big step towards restoration by winning a £750,000 grant from the government’s Coastal Communities fund. A further £443,000 has been allocated to Sussex Coast College to establish a coastal industries academy, writes Nick Terdre.

A natural slice of  life

HOT has previously reviewed the gallery in the empty shop in Bexhill-on-Sea town centre, however, with a changing raft of artists from the De La Warr Pavilion’s Artist critique group in the Twelve by Six show,  HOT reporter, Lauris Morgan-Griffiths, thought it well worth a revisit to see their last show.

Three cheers for the Pier

This week Hastings is celebrating the wonderful news of the £11.4 million Heritage Lottery Fund for the pier. Hastings Online Times would like to add our cheers for the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust (HPWRT) into the mix. It’s been six long years of fighting, but thanks to their patience and persistence, it looks like things are beginning to move.

The government has given the green light for the council to go ahead with the compulsory purchase of Hastings pier, an important element in the restoration process headed by the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust writes HOT journalist Nick Terdre.

Countdown to pier decision

Government approval for the council’s proposed compulsory purchase of Hastings pier should be decided soon, and in November the Heritage Lottery Fund is due to rule on the application for funds to rebuild the pier. Well before the end of the year, then, the local community will know if the project to restore the pier is to be realised. The signs are looking good, Nick Terdre writes.
