When Hastings’ reborn pier opens for business next year, the 325,000 visitors it is expected to attract to the town offer a great potential boost for regeneration. And capturing regeneration potential in its area is the mission of the White Rock Trust, which is preparing to move into a new base. Trust coordinator, Ed Lofts, explains all to Nick Terdre.

Better days are getting nearer for Hastings pier.

Grant secured for pier restaurant

Hastings Pier has taken another big step towards restoration by winning a £750,000 grant from the government’s Coastal Communities fund. A further £443,000 has been allocated to Sussex Coast College to establish a coastal industries academy, writes Nick Terdre.

Jo Brand stands up for the pier

Jo Brand, one of the UK’s most highly regarded comedians and ex local resident, is coming to Hastings to help save the pier.  She’ll be performing at The White Rock Theatre on March 30th with support from fellow comedians, Doon Mackichan, Angela Barnes and Quincy.  HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked Jo some questions.

The government has given the green light for the council to go ahead with the compulsory purchase of Hastings pier, an important element in the restoration process headed by the Hastings Pier and White Rock Trust writes HOT journalist Nick Terdre.

Countdown to pier decision

Government approval for the council’s proposed compulsory purchase of Hastings pier should be decided soon, and in November the Heritage Lottery Fund is due to rule on the application for funds to rebuild the pier. Well before the end of the year, then, the local community will know if the project to restore the pier is to be realised. The signs are looking good, Nick Terdre writes.
