Local Labour’s PR vote welcomed by Greens

The local Labour Party has endorsed the principle of proportional representation for parliamentary elections, a move that has been welcomed by Hastings Greens. Nick Terdre reports.

HBC planners back amusement park changes

Council planning officers have recommended acceptance of the application for “extensions and refurbishments” of the sea-front amusement park in the Old Town when it comes before the planning committee next Wednesday. If planning permission is granted, a new footpath will replace the one running between the amusement park and the boating lake. Nick Terdre reports.

“Enclosure by stealth” irks Old Town residents

Old Town residents and supporters are up in arms at what they see as “enclosure by stealth” – attempts by the owner of the amusement park on the Stade to take control of the public footpath which runs round part of the boating lake. Two petitions have been delivered, which leave the authorities in no doubt as to their feelings. Nick Terdre reports.

LibDems stand aside for Greens in Old Hastings

The Liberal Democrats have decided to stand aside in Old Hastings ward and switch their support to the Green Party candidates at the local elections in May. The Greens have welcomed the move – both parties are keen to see Labour’s control of Hastings Borough Council subjected to greater scrutiny and opposition. Nick Terdre reports.
