Against All Odds

Ruban Shangmuganathan from Bexhill has overcome ill‐health and disability to become a valued volunteer with local charity, Hastings Furniture Service. His achievement was recognized with an Against All Odds award this week. Naomi Ridley, chief executive of HFS writes about Ruban’s achievements.

I would like to say a huge, sincere and hearty ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who said my words about Fran McKeown were a fitting tribute to such a well-liked, respected and admired person, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick.  It’s also been extremely heart-warming to read the other personal tributes that have been written about her and to get some insights into her life.

Fran McKeown

The news of Fran McKeown’s sudden death on Christmas Day came as a huge shock, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick.  Paddling in the sea on Christmas morning, she was caught off guard by a wave, sweeping her further out to sea, where she collided with a groyne. Attempts were made to resuscitate her, but she died later that evening from her injuries.
