Fashion show a highlight as Bexhill comes together to support Fairtrade Fortnight

We’re in the middle of Fairtrade Fortnight, with the highlight of the Fairtrade Fashion Show coming up in Bexhill on Thursday. It’s a chance to demonstrate solidarity with disadvantaged producers and farmers in the developing world. Nick Terdre reports.

Nuts about fairtrade fashion

This year’s Bexhill Fairtrade Fashion show was held last Friday at the new Izzard Theatre in Bexhill 6th Form College. This new intimate venue was the ideal place to see fashion up close, writes HOT’s style correspondent Bevali Francis. The evening showcased clothes from Fairtrade fashion companies as well as work made by the students using Fairtrade cotton or recycled materials.

A tasty breakfast kicks off Fairtrade Fortnight

Fairtrade Fortnight kicked off with a tasty breakfast on Sunday against a background of dismal prospects for sugar cane producers in developing countries. On the programme are a joint event with Global Justice Now and a wine tasting at the De La Warr. Nick Terdre reports.

If you see human bananas cavorting around the town centres in Bexhill or Hastings this week, don’t be alarmed – they’re part of the Fairtrade Fortnight campaign for banana producers to be paid a fair price by British supermarkets. Nick Terdre reports.

Traidcraft roadshow hits Hastings

Traidcraft, the fair trade retailer, is holding its first roadshow in Hastings on Thursday. In addition to the usual fairly traded products, it will bring a message from producers and advice on how to get involved in promoting fairer trade relations. Nick Terdre reports.

Traidcraft fillip for Hastings Fairtrade

The steering group set up to plot Hastings’ route to Fairtrade status received a fillip when it held its first meeting, with news that Traidcraft, the ethical and fairtrade supplier, will be holding a roadshow here in late January. HOT’s Nick Terdre reports.

Steering Hastings to Fairtrade status

A steering committee has been established to lead Hastings and St Leonards’ charge towards becoming a Fairtrade town. The mobilisation of Fairtrade forces in the town should be reflected in higher participation in next year’s, Fairtrade Fortnight, which will have a campaigning focus on bananas. HOT’s Nick Terdre reports.
