Walkers on the greenway route between Alexandra Park and Conquest Hospital.

Greenway walking season kicks off!

Hastings Greenway Group is summoning supporters to join in this year’s first walk for the greenway. They welcome the fact that the project enjoys support from most of the parties in the upcoming local elections, but have found it hard to clarify whether they qualify for a grant from a walking and cycling fund which could help bring the dream closer to reality. Nick Terdre reports. Photos by Tony Polain.

A room with a view to lowering standards

Severe modifications are being proposed to the unbuilt visitor centre in Hastings Country Park. Will the new design benefit the Country Park? Bernard McGinley takes a wild guess, and finds the application still wanting.

The booby’s progress

Two or three weeks ago, an unusual red-footed avian arrived on our local beach and was synchronistically discovered by local resident, Gail Cohen. The red-footed booby, way off its expected flight path, has been slowly recovering its strength. HOT’s Chandra Masoliver,

Spirit of the Land

Spirit of the Land is described as “a personal journey to rediscover the intimate paths between us and the land”. This is achieved through a series of three outdoor Saturday workshops along the coastal path near Hastings. HOT reporters Cathy Simpson and Erica Smith put on their walking boots, braved the wind and rain, and explored the great outdoors and their inner landscapes.

Is Hastings Country Park still the one celebrated in this plaque?

New blots, old landscape

What is it about the Country Park? On Wednesday 4 March Hastings Borough Council’s planning committee will consider again the notorious Rocklands case — and a couple of others. Bernard McGinley wonders if they’re linked.

One of the enchanted creatures at Mallydams Wood

Magical Mallydams

Apart from dropping off injured birds of various varieties, I’ve not been to the RSPCA Mallydams Centre at Fairlight to explore the acres of land they have there.  The summer Open Wood Day gave me the opportunity – and I’m glad I went along, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick.
