End-of-the-year pier show unveiled

Please don’t mention the width of West Street

Do you know where West Street is? It is a narrow road sandwiched between George Street and East Parade in Hastings Old Town, an area where the buildings are mostly listed. Planning decisions should take into account the circumstances of the locale, a reasonable person might suppose. In West Street this has proved not to be the case, to the detriment of local residents, whose attempts to have the situation corrected have been ignored. Richard Price reports.

Making it all stack up

When Jeff Kirby came to Hastings for the first time last November to see the Observer Building ‘in order to help out a friend’, the rain was lashing horizontally and he stood opposite the building and shook his head. “My friend had bought the building and asked me to help him make it work. Nothing attracted me to the building – my first thought was to ring up my friend and tell him the best thing he could do was walk away.” HOT’s Erica Smith listens to how his attitude changed.

CHV in springtime

Is this a Sussex Spring?

We’re familiar with the Arab Spring. Do we currently have a Sussex Spring happening within our own country, (albeit a relatively tranquil one thankfully), emerging around the issue of the Bexhill Hastings Link Road?, asks HOT’s Zelly Restorick.
