England Coast Path goes kinky in Hastings Country Park

The landslip below Rocklands caravan park has obliged Natural England to go the long way round to accommodate the Hastings Country Park section of the coastal path, as Andrew Colquhoun, vice chair of the Friends of Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve, explains.

Climate motion passed by HBC, but Greens disappointed

Hastings now has a climate emergency policy, following the unanimous approval given by the full council last week. A Tory amendment was voted down, and the Greens, who started the climate emergency ball rolling, declared themselves disappointed with the policy. Nick Terdre reports.

Dismay as ESCC proposes to close English language service for school-age refugees

East Sussex County Council’s move to close the English as an Additional Language service, a vital resource for school-age refugees, has provoked widespread concern among refugee families and support groups. While possible alternative ways of providing the service are being explored, they are calling on the community to respond to the consultation on the issue, which remains open until Sunday 3 February. Nick Terdre reports.

Hastings joins day of climate change action

Thousands of actions will be taking place across the world, from Papua New Guinea to Panama, as part of Rise for Climate, a day of action calling for a fast and fair transition to a world without fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas) and 100% renewable energy for all. Fossil Free Hastings encourages local people to participate.

HBC called to account over Sea Change briefings

Campaign group Seachangewatch is calling on Hastings Borough Council to implement a recommendation made five years ago to require economic development company Sea Change Sussex to provide an annual briefing on its activities. Nick Terdre reports.
