England Coast Path goes kinky in Hastings Country Park

Climate motion passed by HBC, but Greens disappointed

Hastings now has a climate emergency policy, following the unanimous approval given by the full council last week. A Tory amendment was voted down, and the Greens, who started the climate emergency ball rolling, declared themselves disappointed with the policy. Nick Terdre reports.

Dismay as ESCC proposes to close English language service for school-age refugees

East Sussex County Council’s move to close the English as an Additional Language service, a vital resource for school-age refugees, has provoked widespread concern among refugee families and support groups. While possible alternative ways of providing the service are being explored, they are calling on the community to respond to the consultation on the issue, which remains open until Sunday 3 February. Hastings joins day of climate change action

Thousands of actions will be taking place across the world, from Papua New Guinea to Panama, as part of Rise for Climate, a day of action calling for a fast and fair transition to a world without fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas) and 100% renewable energy for all. Fossil Free Hastings encourages local people to participate.

HBC called to account over Sea Change briefings

Robust response to ESCC’s greenway cuts

Reacting to East Sussex County Council’s arbitrary decision to cut funding for walking and cycling projects, Hastings Greenway Group has sent a robust response to County Hall stating its priorities and how it plans to see them implemented. Meanwhile greenway supporters walked the Conquest Hospital-Alexandra Park section of the proposed greenway network this weekend. Nick Terdre reports.

Walking and cycling funding cut draws protest

Hastings Greenway Group (HGG) has delivered a strong protest against East Sussex County Council’s decision to halve the budget for a package of walking and cycling routes in order to provide more money for road building, the latest in a series of walking and cycling commitments which have failed to materialise. Meanwhile the group has arranged a walk along the Ore Valley stretch of the proposed greenway route. Nick Terdre reports.
