A group of local volunteers have become victims of their own success this week as the empty shop they were using has been successfully let to a business. Hastings Furniture Service used an empty shop in Bexhill to offer books for free to people passing by – raising awareness of the work of HFS and donations in the process.

Domestic violence is a form of abuse that can affect anyone, regardless of sex, age, race, religion or class. However, most victims of domestic violence are women and sadly, the levels of domestic abuse in Hastings are higher than the national average.

Domestic Disturbance evening raises funds on International Women’s Day

A fantastic £547 was raised by the School Creative Centre and riart Grrrls in aid of Refuge on International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March. Domestic Disturbance, which involved collaborations from over 50 women, was a riartous evening of performance, live art, knitting, exhibitions and scrumptious food. Xaverine Bates reports back on the outrageously quirky celebrations.
