Cllr Richard Stogdon, Chair of the East Sussex Pension Committee stated:  ‘[I]t is in the best interest of the [East Sussex Pension] Fund to get the entire oil industry to put itself on a pathway of “managed decline”.’

Don’t miss the climate change bus!

Don’t miss the climate change bus: make pensions fossil free! This is the message from Divest East Sussex and Fossil Free Hastings. On Saturday 23 September campaigners from across East Sussex will be boarding one of the Big Lemon’s sustainable buses for a one-day tour of the county, taking the message about fossil fuel divestment – and the Divest East Sussex petition – to Hastings, Bexhill, Hailsham, Eastbourne, Seaford, Crowborough, Uckfield and Brighton. Here they explain why.

Divest fossil fuels battle continues

The chair of the East Sussex Pension Committee, Councillor Richard Stogdon, has said that he ‘entirely agrees’ that ‘any encouragement to the fracking industry’ – such as investments in ‘fracking companies’ – ‘should be avoided’, as these are ‘not in the best interest of the Council’s pensioners … [or] residents of East Sussex.’ Cllr Stogdon also stated that the Pension Committee would be ‘looking at strategies for reducing – as far as possible – any investment in coal where we see that’s in the best interests of our pensioners.’ [1] Information sent by Divest East Sussex.
