Funding secured for dementia singing clubs

Dementia Support East Sussex’s long search for fresh funding has finally been successful, securing the future for its successful singing clubs. Nick Terdre reports.

Despite funding difficulties, Dementia Support East Sussex (DSES) is pushing ahead with its mission of providing singing opportunities for people suffering from dementia, with several new clubs about to open. Nick Terdre reports.

Singing away the dementia barriers

Since he set up Dementia Support East Sussex to promote singing as a means of combating the social isolation inflicted by dementia, chair Cliff Slack has been taken aback by the enthusiastic response the initiative has aroused. As the Christmas concert approaches, he brings  Nick Terdre up to speed with the progress made this year.

Dementia Support East Sussex, which promotes communal singing as a tool for helping dementia sufferers break through their isolation, has extended its activities with the formation of several new clubs across the region. Nick Terdre reports.

Combating dementia with music-making

Music is a vital lifeline to dementia sufferers whose cruel illness cuts them off from the rest of the world in many ways. This philosophy is the driving force behind the work of Dementia Support East Sussex as they prepare for their second public concert on Saturday.
