One of the enchanted creatures at Mallydams Wood

Magical Mallydams

Apart from dropping off injured birds of various varieties, I’ve not been to the RSPCA Mallydams Centre at Fairlight to explore the acres of land they have there.  The summer Open Wood Day gave me the opportunity – and I’m glad I went along, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick.

Trees cut down

Protecting what you care about

Last Friday, tree felling started in preparation for the Bexhill Hastings Link Road, with crews working over the weekend, cutting down a swathe of trees parallel to London Road in Bexhill. At the same time, protectors of the natural environment, who oppose this road and the planned national road building programme of 190+ roads through England and Wales,  joined together and did what they could to protect what they value.  HOT’s Zelly Restorick was there as an independent campaigner.

Trenches at Combe Haven

Link road not inevitable, says campaigner

Work on the Bexhill to Hastings Link Road (BHLR) is due to start in January 2013 and exploratory trenches are already being dug at the Combe Haven site.  However, for those who feel it isn’t an ideal time in humanity’s history for over £100 million to be spent on a road, there is still time to campaign. HOT’s Zelly Restorick spoke to nationally respected transport and environmental campaigner, John Stewart, who is due to speak at this weekend’s ‘Stop The Road’ rally at Combe Haven.
