ESCC switches funds to cover road overruns

Costs for two Sea Change Sussex road-building projects have increased, leading East Sussex County Council to switch funds from other projects to cover the overruns. In one case, Combe Haven Defenders note, monies will be taken from a walking and cycling fund to help finance the increase. Nick Terdre reports.

Council scraps planning notification letters

As from the New Year Hastings Borough Council will stop sending letters to notify residents of planning applications in their area. The move, confirmed at this week’s Cabinet meeting, has drawn a lot of criticism. Nick Terdre reports.

Court challenge to QGR over air pollution fails

Local activist Gabriel Carlyle this week sought to have the planning permission for Sea Change Sussex’s Queensway Gateway road overturned on air pollution grounds, but the High Court refused to accept his case. Nick Terdre reports.

Petition launched to halt road construction due to excessive air pollution levels

Combe Haven Defenders have launched a petition calling for construction of Sea Change Sussex’s Queensway Gateway Road to be suspended while a potentially serious breach of air pollution limits is investigated. Nick Terdre reports.

“Not your idyllic Springwatch in a Sussex bluebell wood, but an observation of the processes that drive out protected species to prepare the land for tarmac.” This is local artist Emily Johns’ description of her new exhibition, ‘Drawn to Witness’, documenting the changes in the Hollington Valley local wildlife site over the past year, as local residents struggled to stop the Queensway Gateway road being built on top of it.
