Re-interpreting the past through museum exhibits

It is always a delight to go to Hastings Museum and Art Gallery. Around every corner there is surprise. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths was intrigued by SOCO Artists’ latest project – an imaginative response to the museum’s exhibits: drawings and paintings, concertina-ed books, beautifully made objects, found objects and textiles.

Love letters and closet seagulls

Following on from the very successful Burns Night, the motto for next Monday and Tuesday’s feast in The House of St David is ‘Feed me til I want no more’. A ticket includes a fab dinner of tarts with Welsh flavours and clever evocations of Welsh rarebit and cake as well as cultural slap-up nourishment with Welsh performance ingredients.

The power of six

The Fleet Gallery on Norman Road is always a surprise. You never know who or what you will see there: Maggi Hambling, Terry Frost, Mary Fedden, Ben Nicholson or – either their work or in person – locals like Roland Jarvis, Laetitia Yhap and Amanda Nicol. Patrick Robbins is a great supporter of local artists and so HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths went along to see his latest show of ‘6’ (mainly) resident painters.

Unwrapped at the Stables

Over the last year or so the Stables Art Gallery have put on some interesting solo as well as mixed shows. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths sallied forth with anticipation to SoCo Artists’ latest show, Unwrapped.
