There were no surprises in the outcome of last week’s by-elections, with both Labour and Conservative holding the three seats in play, but both the Green Party and an independent candidate were pleased with their showing. Nick Terdre reports.

Buoyed by their performance in the general election, Hastings and Rye Green Party have decided to contest the by-elections for the three seats which have recently become vacant on the local and country councils, as they explain in this statement. Nick Terdre reports.

Ukip gathers votes but no seats

Unlike in other parts of the country, there was no breakthrough for Ukip, the UK Independence Party, in the local elections in Hastings, where it lost its only seat to the Tories. With 16 seats up for grabs, Labour gained one from the Tories, ending up with 11 against the Tories’ five. Nick Terdre reports.

Community First Grants

Applications are invited for the third round of the Central St Leonards Ward Community First grants. Grants of up to £2500 will be available for activities that meet local needs, and which are matched by an equivalent amount of volunteering time or donations.
