Hastings remains a Labour stronghold

Thursday’s election saw Labour tightening its grip on the local council as it increased its number of councillors to 24. The Tories held onto the remainding eight seats, leaving other opposition parties out in the cold, though the Greens came tantalisingly close to taking a seat off Labour. Nick Terdre reports.

Coming up on 29 January 2016 is the 20th anniversary of the action, in which four women disarmed a Hawk warplane bound for Indonesia, to stop it being used in illegally-occupied East Timor. After six months in prison awaiting trial, they were acquitted of all charges. HOT’s Zelly Restorick reports.

MPs given wake-up call

Last week, chief executive Naomi Ridley and her colleagues at Hastings Furniture Service went to Westminster to deliver a pillowcase to every MP, asking ‘How did you sleep last night?’, in an effort to raise awareness of the consequences of cutting Local Welfare Assistance. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked Naomi to let us know what happened.
