Syrian short stories talk by author

Local author, Bronwen Griffiths will be giving a talk about her book of short stories about Syria, ‘Not Here, Not Us’ at the Cafe Rue de Pera in Queens Road at 6.30pm this Thursday, 27 July. She’ll be talking about why she wrote the book and giving some readings, including new and unpublished work.

Candles lit for people of Aleppo

On Saturday (16 December) over 100 people attended a vigil for Aleppo the Stade Open Space. The event was organised by Hastings Supports Refugees to remember the victims of the terrible war in Syria and to send out a message that here in Hastings people are thinking of them. Jamie Osborn from Hastings Supports Refugees writes.

Earlier this month, Bronwen Griffiths published her book of short stories and flash fiction, Not Here, Not Us, about Syrian refugees and the situation in Syria. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked Bronwen about her interest in the conflict, her support for the refugees, the organisations she’s involved with, her inspiration for writing the book and how we can find out more about the crisis.

A Bird in the House: international novel by local author

Bronwen Griffiths is a familiar name to regular readers of Hastings Online Times. Over the years she has contributed short stories and poems. Back in February 2011, she happened to be on holiday in Libya when civil war broke out, and she ended up being airlifted out of the country by the Italian army. Like all good writers, personal experience feeds in to the creative process, and Bronwen’s first published novel is set partially in a Sussex town not unlike Hastings, and partially in Libya. HOT’s Erica Smith met up with Bronwen to separate the fact from the fiction…
