Virtual Jack in the Green proves worldwide success

May Day means Jack in the Green, but in the era of coronavirus the festival had to go virtual. It proved a rip-roaring success, with viewers and participants joining in from around the world, JitG chair of trustees Keith Leech told Nick Terdre. Virtuoso performances at piano festival gala concert

White Rock Theatre, Saturday 29 February 2020: Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition has gone biennial – it will next take place in 2021 – and the intervening years will host the Hastings International Piano Festival, the latest addition to the town’s cultural offer. Ida Haag’s parallel world on view at Hastings Arts Forum

A exhibition of recent work by Ida Haag opens at Hastings Arts Forum on 3 March, with a private view the following day. Brian Hick talked to the Swedish artist about the parallel world from which she draws her inspiration.

London Mozart Players replace Poole as Opus’ resident artist

Opus Theatre has a new residency – the London Mozart Players. They will take over from the present incumbent, pianist Oliver Poole. He gave his last concert in the inaugural World Series featuring leading international musicians last Saturday, 5 October, accompanying soprano Tamara Radjenovic in an evening of operatic and Balkan songs. HOT’s music correspondent Brian Hick was there for the occasion.

Salome: a genuinely gripping work

Edifice Dance Theatre: Salome, St Mary in the Castle, Hastings, 29 June 2019. The brief biblical account of Salome has given rise to a wealth of artistic endeavours, the most recent of which comes from Edifice Dance Theatre in cooperation with Hastings Philharmonic. People’s opera rehearsals peak as first performance nears
