Pete Burden was always keen to encourage young musicians.

Pete Burden: talented and generous jazzman

Influential jazz saxophonist Pete Burden passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of 27 December 2016 at the age of 75. Christopher Hoggins, who knew Pete well and once painted his portrait, recalls a life well-lived by a highly talented and generous musician.

Let your hair down at the Fat Tuesday festival

The Fat Tuesday festival is upon us, a chance to let your hair down before submitting to the deprivations of Lent, if you’re that way inclined. Alternatively simply a chance to let your hair down. The organisers have largely stuck to last year’s tried and tested formula, with daytime events at the weekend complementing the evening and late-night happenings on the other nights. Nick Terdre takes a leaf through the programme.

Fat Tuesday: last two days

Following a busy weekend schedule in which the sun shone on the Umbrella Parade, many enjoyed the Preservation Sunday music and beer festival at St Mary in the Castle, not to mention the Off Axis sets played by up-and-coming bands at the Carlisle, while yet others enjoyed the way-out sounds and performances of Sonic Sunday in St Leonards, culminating in something really different at a secret location skilfully disguised beneath a garage, Fat Tuesday moves into its final two days. Here be the word from the website.
