Active Hope: a book club

Active Hope: How to Face the Mess we’re in Without Going Crazy. The challenges we currently face can be difficult even to think about. Climate change, the depletion of oil, economic upheaval, and mass extinction together create a planetary emergency of overwhelming proportions. HOT’s Zelly Restorick asked Jane about the catalyst for forming the book group and her future vision.

Alice Privett sings

A beautiful, accomplished young classical singer will delight us with songs and arias from the classical repertoire, including Schubert’s masterpiece, ‘Shepherd on the Rock’, to help raise money for this year’s  Young Artists’ touring production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore on 5 September. The performance will be topped off with accompaniment by outstanding clarinettist, Andrew Sparling, and Glyndebourne pianist, Nicholas Bosworth, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

St John Passion in St Leonards

We had another musical evening last night, courtesy of the Hastings Philharmonic Choir, in the magnificent Oxford Movement building of Christ Church, Saint Leonards.  If there’s classical music going, I believe in seizing the opportunity, and although choral music isn’t my favourite, you can’t go far wrong with Bach, writes Antony Mair.

Passion for Bach in St Leonards

A fine concert for the Easter season takes place on Saturday 6 April when the Hastings Philharmonic Choir will sing, in English, the magnificent St John Passion, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack, who is also a member of the choir. This sacred oratorio, a dramatic depiction of the events of Holy Week, was written by JS Bach in 1742.
