Exploring Monteverdi

Barefoot Opera continues to explore new ways of hearing and seeing music with a visual narrative of desire from Monteverdi’s beautiful sensual part songs. In collaboration with Cantemus, a chamber choir specialising in newly discovered and rarely heard music from the Renaissance and Baroque period, this unique event celebrates the 450th anniversary of the birth of Monteverdi.

Aino Konkka, a lyric mezzo-soprano with a passion for drama and good stagecraft, movement and language skills, will delight us in St Leonards this Friday with songs from Finland’s greatest composers all inspired by the Finnish landscape, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.

Strange currents in odd places

End of August approaches and with it Hastings and St Leonards annual arts festival, Coastal Currents. Amazingly, now in its sixteenth year, it has been growing exponentially in size and character, attracting international groups and live events as well as supporting local artists. HOT’s Lauris Morgan-Griffiths talked to one of the curators, Tina Morris.
