In the first of two articles Nick Terdre looks at how viability assessments have become so problematic, the council’s response and how the town’s supply of affordable housing has suffered.

Local housing trust celebrates 1 year anniversary

The Heart of Hastings Community Land Trust (HOHCLT), a local housing trust will be celebrating it’s first year anniversary on Saturday 1 July and will be hosting a day of food, fun, music and discussion to coincide with it’s AGM.

Assuming it now gets built, the Station Plaza housing development will be located behind the college, (left) and NHS health centre.

Affordable housing on Station Plaza scrapped

An application for removal of the affordable housing obligation in the Station Plaza development was approved with reluctance by the planning committee last week. The decision raises fears for the future of such housing in Hastings. Nick Terdre reports.

Early 2017 start to Archery Ground construction

Following approval for the changes it requested to the Archery Ground planning permission, developer Gemselect says it expects to be ready to start construction in about six months’ time and have the first houses ready for occupation after another two and a half years. Nick Terdre reports.

New neighbours for Stockleigh Road

If you are in the Seven Streets area of St Leonards this weekend, look out for moving vans in Stockleigh Road. Seven new homes have been created by the Amicus Horizon housing association and the new residents will be moving in over the next few days. HOT’s Erica Smith went round to check out the decor and lend a cup of sugar.
