Garden of Cultural Delights

In this our 8th year of Cultural Delight we were pleased to be joined by Hastings Mayor Cllr. Judy Rogers for the Mayor’s Community Picnic and to take the opportunity to reflect on how essential it is to develop understanding and friendship beyond religious and cultural difference in order to secure a community where bonds of respect and love free us from prejudice and hatred. Report from Tim Miller of the Interfaith Forum.

It was a great delight to see such a variety of faiths and ethnicities and all age groups, enjoying each other’s company and cultural riches. Acromax gymnasts, Gizmo kids, Chinese Dancers and Tornado Twirl Stars all exemplified the value of sharing joy with the wider community while passing on skill and beauty through the generations.

Humphrey and Francis, Ezat Azur, Andrew Harston, Eddie Cornish, Midnight Cats, the Jazz Organisation and Celtic Strings all contributed with humour, talent and harmony from puppetry and rock to barn dance and blues.

Numerous local charities and community groups, Moslems, Anglicans, Baha’is, Catholics, Buddhists and Quakers engaged with the community; Play Development entertained the children and we were fed delicious falafels and Afro-Asian food, ice-cream and cake by local caterers.

Many thanks to our precious volunteers and our generous funders, Hastings Borough Council and Chalk Cliff Trust, and to all of you for sharing in a sunny day when we could feel as one family rejoicing in the pleasure that comes from our diversity.

Looking forward to another Garden of Sunny Delights in 2018.

Have a great summer!!
