The Good, The Bad, The Ugly?

Central St Leonards is currently the focus of a lot of positive activities but there are still many aspects of the area in need of urgent attention. Local voluntary group Gensing and Central St Leonards Community Forum (GCSL) are hosting a public meeting this Saturday morning at the Magnet Centre to explore the issues, writes GCSL’s chair, Richard Hull.

There’s a lot happening in Central St Leonards these days– the UpMarket Designers and Makers Fair is attracting many top-rank names and the St Leonards Town Team are busy with the new regular street market starting at Easter weekend, as well as with the St Leonards Festival and other regeneration work.

In addition the Coastal Space Project is rejuvenating a significant number of properties and providing excellent social housing, and the 7 Streets Project (an 18-month project run by GCSL with funding from The People’s Health Trust) has been buzzing with its Thursday Clean Up Crew augmented by a new Rubbish Barrow courtesy of Hastings Borough Council, as well as running the Young 7 Streeter’s club and most recently a Senior’s Club.

But there is still much to be done to improve this amazingly mixed area.

GCSL are hosting an interactive and participative session exploring the many aspects of life in Central St Leonards. The meeting will also discuss the future prospects for GCSL, which unfortunately cannot continue occupying the Community Information Centre on Silchester Road after October 2014. Light refreshments will be available.
