HPSC to hold art sale for Gaza
Hastings Palestine Solidarity Campaign (HPSC) is to hold an art sale on 3 August to raise funds to support the work of the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians with inhabitants of Gaza who are suffering from military action by Israeli forces, Rachel Lever tells HOT.
The people of Gaza are suffering a third major military onslaught in six years, against the background of a seven-year siege that has seen many essential medical supplies reduced to zero, she says.
In the past week hospitals, clinics, ambulances and medical workers, already in crisis, have all been targeted, as the death toll mounts and over 1,100 have been injured in the first few days of Israeli action, many of them children. Civil infrastructure – water, sewerage and electricity – have been bombed and put out of action just when they are needed most. Sixty six UN-run schools have been bombed and over 10,000 people are homeless.
HPSC is asking our always generous arts community to help them raise funds: main proceeds will go to the UK-based charity Medical Aid for Palestinians, with the remainder helping to fund our campaigning work.
Artists are asked to contact HPSC early with offers, which will help them to plan for a great event. We can collect from your studio or home, or artists can arrange to bring work to White Rock Hotel between 11am and 2pm on 3 August.
In the past few years Hastings artists have donated original, unique art, while lucky buyers have snapped up some fantastic bargains. Thousands of pounds have been raised for victims of natural disasters, and for Gaza in January 2009 in response to the murderous ‘Cast Lead’ attack.
HOT readers wanting to secure their choice of work are advised to come early!
Art sale for Gaza: Sunday 3 August, from 4pm, at White Rock Hotel, 1-10 White Rock, Hastings, TN34 1JU.
