Young writers offered isolation challenge

Budding young writers in Hastings and surrounding areas are being encouraged to use their creative skills during the coronavirus lockdown writes Alison Steel on behalf of the Hastings Young Writers’ Group.

Hastings Young Writers Group is offering local under-18s the chance to get their work included in an anthology of stories, articles, diaries and poems, which will be sold in aid of Hastings-based Charity for Kids.

Hastings Young Writers Group organiser Liz Caluori says: “The anthology will mark a unique time in our history and although young writers can choose any topic they want, they may of course want to explore their feelings about social isolation during the coronavirus crisis.”

All entries will be included in an online anthology and as many as possible in a printed version, which will be sold – with all profits going to Charity for Kids, which supports sick, disabled and terminally ill children across Hastings and Rother.

Young writers are invited to send a story, article or diary-style piece – which can be from a few lines in length up to 1,000 words – to anthology@hastingsyoungwriters.co.uk with their name and age. Poems of up to 40 lines are welcome. There is no lower age limit for submissions.

Liz says: “Younger people may find it daunting to write at length so we’re very happy to receive short submissions, perhaps just a thought or a brief account of an experience.”

Submissions to the Hastings Young Writers Group anthology must be made by May 31, 2020.
