Bexhill action for climate justice

As the Paris climate talks began, hundreds of thousands of people all over the world demonstrated in favour of radical and fair action on climate change at the conference. In Bexhill, Global Justice Now supporters handed out newspapers setting out hopes

Food for thought

Sustainable, indigenous farming versus a multinational commercialised agricultural system. What are the human consequences? And the remedies? Hastings Against War has united with Hastings and District Interfaith Forum to organise a talk about the consequences and repercussions of this change in farming methods and ideology. HOT’s Zelly Restorick reports.

#Enough!, a campaign to abolish war, will be launched on the International Day of Peace, the 21st of September 2015

Our Journey To Smile

Local peace activist, Maya Evans, is involved with the Afghan Peace Volunteers – and the group have recently sent out an email to supporters about an upcoming campaign coinciding with the International Day of Peace: “The People’s Agreement To Abolish War”. HOT’s Zelly Restorick reports.

HOW DEGRADING

How degrading!

Every year, I post this poster from The Green Blue, telling us how long it takes our rubbish to bio-degrade, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. A friend and I put them up along the coast – on noticeboards, in cafes, in shops, wherever water is near. Anyone we speak to is always shocked at how long things take to decompose.

Co-wheels - a new idea for car-sharing

Local car club agreed in principle

Many of us can drive, but we don’t own cars, writes Barbara Rogers. I have been in contact with Co-wheels, a car club, which already has cars in Tunbridge Wells and Lewes and is planning some in Eastbourne and now Hastings. The Council has agreed in principle, and proposed a parking place in Hastings town centre. If successful, more cars could be parked in designated car parks and street bays around the town.

Combe Haven Valley - minus roadworks (Photo Oliver Tookey, I think!)

Puzzling over planning and protection

Puzzled about planning? I know I am, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. Earlier today, I received a press release from the Combe Haven Defenders (one of the groups working locally to protect natural spaces ‘in perpetuity’) stating: “Planned new road would destroy ‘irreplaceable’ wildlife site”.

Brian’s ride to London

A poignant true story for horse lovers everywhere! Waiting at the hospital a few weeks ago, HOT’s Zelly Restorick admired the jaunty tartan trousers of the man sitting next to her; they ended up chatting and the man, Brian Cutler, told her a story from his youth, which touched her heart to the core. Here is Brian’s account of what happened – and the recent synchronistic finale.
