5 For Wellbeing event! All welcome!

Su Barnicoat, Community Development Officer for Chances4Change East Sussex Project at Hastings Voluntary Action in Hastings has organised a stimulating, entertaining, interesting and fun day out called ‘5 For Wellbeing’, writes HOT’s Zelly Restorick. The 5 Ways are based on the researched wellbeing suggestions: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give – simple activities we can all include in our everyday lives.

Is pill-popping the answer?

It seems there is a never-ending onslaught of TV programmes these days about diet and exercise, telling us what we should or shouldn’t be doing. Add to this the massive volume of conflicting information about supplementation and you’re left none the wiser and without a clue where to start. Nutritional therapist Jackie Newson throws light on the vexed question of supplements.

Bathing water contamination to be tackled

Hastings Borough Council, the Environment Agency and Southern Water are working together to tackle contamination in the bathing water, which threatens to affect its quality rating, writes Nick Terdre. As a seaside resort, Hastings stands to lose a lot if the quality of its sea-water is rated as poor and people are advised against swimming in the sea.

Be mobile and make them mobile!

Sponsored walkers are looking to raise £1,000 for charity by walking about 60 miles from St Leonards-on-Sea to Canterbury in April. The walk is being organised by Ian McNulty, manager of an Abbeyfield South Downs House at St Leonards. Ian leads a team out each year to raise funds to keep a mini-bus on the road for residents, writes HOT’s Chris Cormack.
