Trees cut down

Protecting what you care about

Last Friday, tree felling started in preparation for the Bexhill Hastings Link Road, with crews working over the weekend, cutting down a swathe of trees parallel to London Road in Bexhill. At the same time, protectors of the natural environment, who oppose this road and the planned national road building programme of 190+ roads through England and Wales,  joined together and did what they could to protect what they value.  HOT’s Zelly Restorick was there as an independent campaigner.

TwoBuildings_320

Wednesday 28 November saw developments about two iconic Hastings buildings, St Mary In The Castle and the former Observer Building on Cambridge Road.  The latter has been empty for decades and is the biggest derelict building in the town. Whilst the news about St Mary In The Castle looks potentially positive, campaigners from Hastings Trust expressed dismay at the relative lack of interest or action from Hastings Borough Council regarding the future of the Observer Building. HOT’s Built Environment columnist, Richard Hull, writing in an individual capacity, delves further into the depths of the arguments.

Introducing the riart Grrrls: Hastings and St Leonards’ brand new feminist artists’ collective

Hastings & St Leonards has long had a history of feminism: brave, inspirational women committed to improving the lives of women in this town and beyond. Ripe territory then for riart Grrrls: Hastings & St. Leonards’ first ever feminist artists’ collective. Xaverine Bates tells us how it is…
