Sustainability advisor backs 1066 Local Energy

Imagination, creativity and innovation. Intrinsic elements for our shared future. And elements encapsulated deep in the heart of 1066 Local Energy’s vision for Hastings and St Leonards on Sea for clean electricity generation. Alan Simpson, advisor on sustainability to the Shadow Cabinet and committed renewable clean energy advocate was the main speaker at a pre-launch gathering held at The Beacon, adding his enthusiastic support to the evolution of locally owned, lower priced energy production where the money generated would stay within the local community. HOT’s Zelly Restorick reports.

Big Happy Sun Day

Sunshine to power Hastings to 2066

Amazing energy innovation for Hastings and St Leonards. The 1066 Local Energy campaign is about to be launched. A campaign by local organisations to turn homes, businesses and churches into mini green power stations to keep energy prices affordable begins at the Stade on 10 September 10 2017 with The Big Happy Sun Day. The campaign will also launch a new community energy tariff that offers better deals to those on prepay meters and a green energy tariff to support local groups.

Bags of Help for Energise Sussex Coast

Energise Sussex Coast is bidding to bag a massive cash boost for its ‘Science Lab on the Beach’ project from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative. This really is an excellent community organisation, who are doing all they can to reduce local fuel poverty and develop local community energy, so that the benefits stay within Hastings and St Leonards. Governance volunteers needed for 1066 Energy

1066 Energy is the campaign for local energy in Hastings and Rother. This really is a fantastic initiative for our area; some local people have been working on this vision for many years, but now it’s rapidly taking shape and needs volunteers.

Council urged to start food waste recycling

Hastings Green Party has launched a Change petition calling for Hastings Borough Council to add food waste to their list of collectible and recyclable materials. Why? The move would cut down on the amount of waste material sent to landfill, reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with landfilled food waste, provide a useful source of compost and potentially – via anaerobic digestion – a source of energy, plus reduce mess on our streets caused by gulls tearing open rubbish bags containing food.
